Introducing PlanEnergi

Introducing TREASURE consortium member - PlanEnergi.

PlanEnergi is an independent consultancy company specialized in energy efficiency and utilization of renewable energy, with extensive experience within district heating systems, combining solar thermal, heat pumps, excess heat and thermal storage.

PlanEnergi has been a main stakeholder in development of Solar District Heating SDH and large-scale water-based thermal storage in Denmark. Within this field, PlanEnergi has been coordinator of the development program for large scale thermal storage for the Danish Energy Agency in the 90s and developed the SUNSTORE® concept.

PlanEnergi has been consultant for the first full scale PTES in Marstal (2012) and Dronninglund (2014), for the pilot borehole storage in Brædstrup (2011) and the recently commissioned PTES in Høje Taastrup (2023; monitoring PTES in this program). Lessons learned from the Danish PTES experience will be valuable to incorporate in TREASURE.

Role in the project

In the TREASURE project, PlanEnergi will provide its expertise by leading WP2, which focuses on assisting the demonstrators throughout the implementation process. Specifically, PlanEnergi will oversee the identification of potential sites for PTES construction and conduct preliminary assessments of project feasibility, encompassing technical, legal, financing possibilities, organizational setup, and sustainability considerations. Additionally, PlanEnergi will:

  • Manage the technical design, procurement, contracting, execution, and commissioning of the PTES.

  • Leverage its extensive practical experience in PTES across WP3 to advance research and innovation in PTES, with a focus on mitigating corrosion risks, optimizing PTES design (including side walls and covers), and improving understanding of soil mechanics and dynamics.

  • Participate in WP4, WP5, and WP6 by deploying monitoring devices in selected PTES demonstration projects, assessing their expected performances, and outlining the economic and business frameworks related to PTES.

  • Strive to improve the current regulatory and policy framework and contribute to the dissemination of the project's work by widely sharing the training materials and lessons learned as part of WP8 (Dissemination and Communication).
