TREASURE at large-scale heat storage systems Symposium
On November 20, 2024, AEE INTEC and Wien Energie are organizing a symposium dedicated to large-scale heat storage systems – a crucial technology in achieving decarbonization and ensuring the resilience of heating networks.
As part of the ongoing efforts to decarbonize Austria’s local and district heating networks, sustainable heat sources such as waste heat, large heat pumps, deep geothermal energy, solar thermal energy, and power-to-heat (P2H) will play a pivotal role. However, these sustainable sources often produce heat in profiles that are not aligned with seasonal or daily consumption patterns. As a result, ensuring system flexibility and security of supply requires innovative solutions. Large heat storage systems are key to addressing this challenge, offering the capacity to balance production and consumption, particularly in the colder seasons.
At the symposium, attendees will gain insights into both international research and national projects in heat storage technology. The event will also feature a panel discussion, bringing together key stakeholders from the business, research, and public sectors to explore the next steps for large-scale implementation of heat storage systems. In particular, the discussion will focus on creating the necessary framework conditions for the broader deployment of these technologies.
