Rostock has a long history of innovation in renewable energy and is a leader in the transition to clean, carbon-neutral solutions for urban infrastructure. Their vision is to foster environmentally friendly technologies and practices that enhance the quality of life for their residents while contributing to global climate goals.

Role in the project

In the TREASURE project, Hansestadt Rostock is at the forefront of developing Germany’s first large-scale underground heat storage system (PTES), with a capacity of 500,000 m³. This project is a crucial step towards decarbonizing the district heating network in Rostock and sets the foundation for further expansion of similar systems across the country.
