Introducing TUD Dresden University of Technology
Introducing TREASURE consortium member - TUD Dresden University of Technology.
TUD Dresden University of Technology is one of the largest technical universities in Germany. With 17 Faculties across five Schools, TUD offers a wide range of 119-degree programs and undertakes research in five focal areas of research, which reflect the strengths of the university:
Health Sciences, Biomedicine and Bioengineering,
Information Technology and Microelectronics,
Materials Science and Engineering,
Energy, Mobility and Environment,
Culture and Societal Change.
Since 2012, TUD has been one of Germany’s eleven Universities of Excellence.
Role in the project
In the TREASURE project, TUD will collaborate on implementing a distributed temperature sensing system (DTS) in one of the pit storages. This advanced system, which uses fibre optic cables as both sensors and data transfer devices, enables precise temperature measurements at intervals of just 12.6 cm along the cables.
The system’s contribution will be twofold. First, it will evaluate the temperature distribution within the storage medium, capturing data in both vertical and horizontal dimensions. Second, the system will be installed in the surrounding soil to monitor the temperature profile over short-, medium-, and long-term periods. The detailed temperature measurements gathered will then be refined and used to validate computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations, enhancing the project's overall accuracy and efficiency.
