DEMONSTRATING LARGE PIT THERMAL ENERGY STORAGES
-
GOAL
Our goal is to bridge the gap between research and practice to ensure robust, safe, cost effective and sustainable large-scale thermal energy storage; and develop secure and smart system integration concepts and increase the effectiveness of realizing pit thermal energy storage (PTES) technology in Europe.
-
FUNDING
The TREASURE project represents a groundbreaking initiative supported by the European Union through its HORIZON 2.5 - Climate, Energy, and Mobility program.
With an EU contribution of € 9 894 688,40.
-
CONSORTIUM
The research consortium includes 23 partners from different European countries.
Starting in January 2024, the project is set to conclude in December 2027.
Delve deeper into our consortium to gain insights into our partners' contributions to the project.
To establish a fully green energy system in Europe, flexible energy management is vital, especially with intermittent sources like wind and solar.
The TREASURE project is developing large underground heat storage essential for utilizing renewable energy in heating communities and industries.
Through 7 demonstration projects across 5 countries, we are refining storage techniques collaboratively, leveraging data from existing projects for continuous improvement.
With diverse partners including suppliers, builders, researchers, and energy firms, TREASURE aims to streamline the implementation of over 2000 storages, crucial for achieving a carbon-free energy system.
